Watsonville man arrested for illegal weapons in Monterey

MONTEREY — A Watsonville man was arrested Wednesday in Monterey and booked into the city of Monterey jail on suspicion of possessing illegal weapons.

Carreon Rodriguez, 21, was arrested after Monterey police officers responded to a report of a fight along the 200 block of Figueroa Street a little before 5 p.m. on Wednesday. When officers arrived on the scene they were informed that one of the men brandished a handgun that was tucked into his waistband, police allege.

The group of men left the area but were discovered in a nearby business where Rodriguez was found with a loaded concealed handgun and was arrested, police said. During the search of Rodriguez’s car, police said they uncovered ammunition and a loaded high-capacity 50-round drum magazine.

He was arrested for possession of a loaded firearm in a public place, carrying an unregistered firearm, displaying a firearm and possession of a large-capacity magazine.

His bail was set at $30,000 and Rodriguez was later released after posting bail.
