2022 NBA DRAFT TIME: 5 p.m. TV: ABC/ESPN/ESPN+.
WARRIORS PICKS: 28, 51, 55.
Are you recovered from your parade hangover yet? It’s okay if you aren’t — heck, even some of the Warriors players are enjoying the start to their summer and may be trying to keep the party going.
But while those around Golden State still may want to keep basking in their fourth championship in eight years and Stephen Curry’s first Finals MVP, the rest of the NBA is thirsting to move on and get next year started. And on Thursday night, that’s exactly what they’ll do.
The 2022 NBA Draft is here, with the festivities getting underway at 5 p.m. Pacific time. The Warriors have three picks on the evening, with the #28 pick in the first round and two late second round picks (#51 and #55).
With a few key pending free agents in Kevon Looney, Gary Payton II and Otto Porter Jr., the Warriors could signal they’re preparing for life without one of those players with their choices tonight. Or they could trade their picks away.
And while Golden State is currently seen as a favorite to win next year’s title, the chatter around the NBA Draft is indicating that several possible contenders — including two teams the Warriors knocked off in the playoffs, Memphis and Dallas — are making moves to get ready to make a run at the champs.
There’s also Santa Clara star Jalen Williams, who is expected to be the first player from Santa Clara taken in the NBA Draft since Steve Nash. He’s projected to be a first round pick and could fall somewhere in the middle of the first round.
Where will the former Bronco end up? How will the Warriors add to their roster? And what moves will be made around the league that could impact Golden State’s chances to repeat?
Follow along as reporters Madeline Kenney and Shayna Rubin and columnist Dieter Kurtenbach break down those questions and more for the 2022 NBA Draft.
