BOSTON — The Warriors received some positive news on the injury front Wednesday ahead of Game 3 of the NBA Finals.
After dealing with swelling in his right knee earlier this week, Andre Iguodala was cleared to play Wednesday night in Boston, coach Steve Kerr said.
Iguodala sat out the Warriors’ blowout Game 2 win Sunday night due to inflammation in his right knee which flared up one day prior. Kerr previously said the 38-year-old was “questionable,” to play Game 3.
Asked how he was feeling Tuesday, Iguodala responded, “I’m alive.”
Gary Payton II (elbow) and Otto Porter Jr. (foot), who were also listed as questionable on the Warriors’ injury report before the game, were also available, Kerr said.
After being limited to just 31 regular-season games as he dealt with knee, hip and back issues, Iguodala once again found himself on the Warriors’ injury list this postseason, missing 13 playoff games due to a left cervical disc issue in his neck before his latest knee injury.
He returned to the rotation in Game 1 of the NBA Finals and played 12 minutes in the loss to the Celtics, scoring seven points on 3-of-4 shooting. Primarily operating as the Warriors’ ball-handler when he played, Iguodala tallied three assists with only one turnover, though he did commit three fouls.
Before his NBA Finals return, Iguodala played in Game 1 of the first round against Denver, sat out Game 2, played in both Games 3 and 4 in Denver and was out for Game 5 and the rest of the Western Conference playoffs.
Meanwhile, Payton made his return to game action in Game 2 on Sunday night after breaking his elbow during the Western Conference semifinals. Payton entered the game with around 5:30 left in the first quarter. He missed his first two free throws but went a perfect 3-for-3 from the field for seven points and snatched three rebounds in 25 minutes.
Porter, a sound rebounder who can make timely shots, missed the last two games of the Western Conference finals series against the Mavericks with a foot injury suffered in the first half of Game 3 but played in the first two games of the series against the Celtics.
