This former Olympic swimmer fulfills lifelong lifeguard dream

This summer, swimmers at Rhode Island’s Narragansett Town Beach may have been among the safest in the world.That’s because three-time Olympian Elizabeth Beisel has been volunteering as a lifeguard there.And she thinks it’s the most important job she’s ever had.”This has been Elizabeth’s dream since she was 15,” Beisel said. “And it’s so cool for me to now fulfill that dream because I was always busy in the summer, I was like traveling for swimming, Olympics, World Championships. So this summer was finally the first one that I had pretty open.” The two-time medalist said she reached out to the head lifeguard earlier in the summer looking for a spot on the team. After going through the interview process, she was hired.As far as swimming goes, Beisel has to be the most qualified lifeguard on duty at Narragansett Town Beach, but her supervisors say she brings way more to the team. “Elizabeth is certainly an Olympic swimmer, but even more importantly, just an amazing human being who fits right into our culture here — consummate professional and has contributed so much towards leadership and mentorship here on our team,” Brian Guadagno said.Watch the video above for more on this story.
