Santa Cruz deputies find bomb during vehicle stop

A bomb was found by deputies during an arrest in Santa Cruz, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office. According to law enforcement, police stopped a vehicle on Sept. 14. The car had one occupant, later identified as Lonnie Geist. A search of the vehicle found an implemented explosive device. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Bomb Team responded to the area and determined that the bomb contained 190 grams of explosive powder and had metal projectiles inside. Geist was placed under arrest and booked in the Santa Cruz County Jail. A judge granted a bail increase on Geist to $250k citing public safety concerns.
