Romero plants herself behind the plate at New Mexico

Leslie Romero won a job behind the dish last spring for the University of New Mexico, starting in 12 of the teams 15 games at catcher before the pandemic shut down the season.

The junior slugger committed just one error in 38 chances behind the plate. Romero batted .228 for the Lobos with a pair of multiple hit games.

A four-year starter at Salinas High, the Gonzales native drove in three runs, added a pair of doubles and scored two runs.

A three-sport standout at Salinas, Romero hit .454 as a senior in 2018 with 44 hits, driving in 31 runs, earning all-league honors.
