Raiders get their safety in Trevon Moehrig, swinging deal with 49ers

The Raiders went into the draft with two glaring needs and filled them both in with their first two picks, trading up to select free safety Trevon Moehrig of TCU Friday night one day after taking right tackle Alex Leatherwood.

Originally scheduled to select at No. 48, the Raiders watched as safeties Jevon Holland and Richie Grant went off the board and then completed a trade with the 49ers to select Moherig at No. 43.

To move up five spots, the Raiders traded their No. 48 pick and No. 121 to get Moehrig at No. 43 as well as the 49ers’ No. 230.

Moehrig, like Leatherwood, will slide into the starting lineup and immediately alongside strong safety Johnathan Abram.
