COOLER WEATHER ARRIVES ON FRIDAY AND THEN PERSISTS THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK. NIGHT AND MORNING CLOUDS WILL ALSO BE COMMON PLACE. A QUICK LOOK AT THE WATER VAPOR IMAGERY MAKES IT PRETTY EASY TO PICTURE THE LONGWAVE PATTERN OVER THE WEST; AN UPPER LEVEL LOW CONTINUES TO SPIN OFF THE NORCAL COAST WHILE HIGH PRESSURE REMAINS PARKED NEAR NORTHERN TEXAS. THE POSITION OF THE UPPER LOW TO THE WEST AND THE UPPER RIDGE TO THE EAST CONTINUES TO RESULT IN SOUTHERLY FLOW ALOFT. THE SOUTHERLY FLOW PUMPS MONSOONAL MOISTURE OVER CA, ESPECIALLY SOCAL AND THE SIERRA. RADARS TO THE S AND E SHOW WIDESPREAD SHOWER ACTIVITY WITH A FEW EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS. SO WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN FOR THE BAY AREA AND CENTRAL COAST TODAY? THERE IS AN OUTSIDE CHANCE FOR A STRAY SHOWERS ALONG EASTERN AREAS. MOST OF THE DETERMINISTIC MODELS KEEP PRECIP OUT OF THE REGION AND ENSEMBLES DO AS WELL, BUT ENOUGH MOISTURE AND MARGINAL INSTABILITY MAY DRIFT WESTWARD FOR A SHOWER. (NONE- ZERO CHANCE) A FEW OTHER INTERESTING WEATHER ITEMS EARLY THIS MORNING ARE THE MARINE LAYER AND CURRENT TEMPERATURE TREND. SATELLITE FOG PRODUCT SHOWS SOLID STRATUS COVERAGE OVER THE COASTAL WATERS, BUT HIGH CLOUDS ARE MAKING IT HARD TO SEE STRATUS COVERAGE INLAND. HOWEVER, PROFILERS PUT THE MARINE LAYER DEPTH AT NEARLY 2K FEET. THE DEPTH HAS INCREASED AND EXPECT THE DEPTH TO INCREASE FURTHER THROUGH AT LEAST SUNRISE. TEMP TRENDS – AREAS UNDER THE MARINE LAYER ARE CURRENTLY RUNNING A FEW DEGREES WARMER THAN YESTERDAY, BUT MORE IMPRESSIVELY IS THE COOLDOWN OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN AND INTERIOR LOCATIONS. LATEST 24 HOUR TRENDS OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN AND INTERIOR LOCATIONS ARE RUNNING AS MUCH AS 10 TO 20 DEGREES COLDER. THE COOLDOWN IS LIKELY DUE TO THE RETREATING RIDGE TO THE EAST, STRONGER ONSHORE FLOW, AND DEEPER MARINE LAYER. THE COOLDOWN NOTED THIS MORNING WILL CONTINUE INTO THE AFTERNOON WITH INTERIOR SPOTS STAYING MOSTLY IN THE 80S AND THE COAST 60S/70S. FOR THE WEEKEND AND INTO NEXT WEEK: THE UPPER LOW OFF THE COAST WILL CONTINUE TO CREEP EASTWARD KEEPING NIGHT/MORNING STRATUS IN PLACE WITH
