New housing project coming to Ord Military Community in Seaside

MONTEREY – The Presidio of Monterey will break ground on the Monterey Bay Military Housing project that will see new homes built for service members at its Ord Military Community in Seaside, the Garrison announced Monday.

“This project is about our investment in our most important assets – our people,” said Presidio of Monterey Garrison Commander Col. Varman Chhoeung. “The project will improve the quality of life and increase readiness.”

The project is slated for land at the intersection of Monterey and Luzon roads in the Lower Stilwell community of the Ord Military Community. The groundbreaking will mark the beginning of construction of the $80 million project that will include 100 new homes for junior enlisted families of all service branches. Neighborhood amenities will include a new community park, fitness trail, and a bike park The first units are expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2022.

The neighborhood will be the first all-electric subdivision in the Ord community and has been designed to LEED Silver standards, said the press release from the Presidio of Monterey.

There are currently 2,400 homes in the Monterey Bay Military Housing project. Over 1,100 homes have been built so far. Another 243 homes have been extensively renovated.
