Playing as an amateur, Stevenson junior Tomi Main posted a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 win Friday at the Newport Beach tennis pro tournament on Balboa Island.

Main, who opened the tournament with her first professional win five days ago, advances to the semifinals in tier 3. Only four players remain in her group.

The 16-year-old Main, who committed last fall to play tennis at Texas Tech in 2023, is 2-2 in the tournament. Her setbacks have come from two world ranked players, including Katie Volynets, who took part in the U.S. Open last summer.

As a freshman at Stevenson in 2018, Main advanced to the Central Coast Section singles semifinals before suffering her first loss of the season.
