Hunters rescued on first day of open deer season in Monterey County

Deer hunting season opened Saturday on the Central Coast and it kept first responders busy.Cal Fire firefighters came to the rescue of a hunter who rolled their Jeep down an embankment in Fort Hunter Liggett. It took some time to rescue the hunter, who was eventually airlifted to a trauma center.After Saturday’s incident, the U.S. Army posted the following reminder to hunters on the Fort Hunter Liggett Facebook page:”Hunting on Fort Hunter Liggett is a privilege, not a right. Violation of Fort Hunter Liggett policies may result in temporary or permanent suspension of Fort Hunter Liggett hunting and/or fishing privileges.”Another incident involving a hunter happened in Carmel Valley. According to Cal Fire, the hunter suffered a medical emergency. Crews had to search for the patient but were able to locate them and give treatment. According to the Los Padres National Forest, the Central Coast falls in a deer hunting zone that covers an area ranging from the Bay Area to Santa Barbara. The season runs from August 13th to September 25th.
