Former president of Team USA Softball accused of sex crimes with child, Sacramento sheriff says

The former president of Team USA Softball was arrested in April, accused of sex offenses with a child, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday. John Gouveia, 61, of Castro Valley, was charged with eight felony counts of lewd lascivious act with a child under 14 years of age, the sheriff’s office said.Gouveia had previously worked for the national governing council for girls’ softball from 1991 to 2019, which officials said included travel nationally and internationally as commissioner of USA Softball of Northern California, as well as the president of USA Softball. The sheriff’s office said that he also worked with the Hayward area recreation and park district for 25 years as general manager before retiring in 2016.However, the victim was not associated with USA softball or the park district, officials said.Gouveia was booked into the Alameda County Jail in April and released on bond the same day. He was arraigned on April 18 in Sacramento Superior Court. His next court date is set for Aug. 11.
