Festa Italia returns to Monterey with 3 days of events

The 89th Festa Italia is coming to Monterey for three days of celebrations at the Custom House Plaza in Monterey. Starting Sept. 9 the event is put on by the nonprofit Festa Italia Foundations to celebrate Monterey’s Italian heritage and cultural traditions.An opening ceremony and procession will be held on Saturday starting a 11:30 a.m. Vitalba Gammicchia will be on site representing the Consulate General of Italy in San Francisco. Events include traditional Italian music and dancing along with traditional Italian food including Calamari, Pasta, Arancini, Cannoli, as well as wine and beer. A bocce tournament will also be held Saturday and Sunday at the courts at Custom House Plaza.The event is free and was started in 1933 to honor the local fishermen of Monterey, both past and present.For a full schedule of events click here.
