Father arrested in Placerville boy’s 2020 death now being investigated for child porn

A Placerville man arrested in connection with the death of his son in 2020 is now under investigation for child porn, according to a complaint filed. Roman Lopez, 11, was found dead in a storage bin in the basement of his family’s home in January 2020, but his father Jordan Piper wouldn’t be arrested until February 2021 on child abuse, poisoning and torture charges. He and Lopez’s stepmother Lindsay Piper were later charged with murder in October 2021.While federal agents were investigating the death of Roman Lopez, more than 400 nude photos of an underage girl were discovered on Jordan’s phone, documents show. It also appears that he sent inappropriate text messages to the girl.Agents also found a GoPro camera, and the card appeared to show him removing it from behind a wall outlet in the bathroom of a rental home in Groveland. Many of the videos found in the card were of a girl bathing. Jordan faces a minimum of 15 years in prison if convicted of the charges.Lindsay Piper last month pleaded no contest to the death of Roman.At the time of Roman’s death, the child was living in a home with the Pipers and seven other children whose ages ranged from 1 to 17 years old. The family had recently moved to Placerville and had only been in the house for a little over two months before Roman’s death.Authorities said that although an autopsy conducted revealed no obvious trauma, Roman was found to be “severely malnourished and dehydrated at the time of his death.”
