OF DANGEROUS HEAT WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE INTERIOR THROUGH LATE WEEK. MANY INLAND ARES WILL SEE SEVERAL DAYS OF AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES EXCEEDING 100 DEG F. THE HEAT WILL BE TEMPERED NEAR THE COAST, BUT TEMPERATURES WILL STILL BE WELL ABOVE NORMAL. AN EXTREMELY SHALLOW MARINE LAYER REMAINS IN PLACE THIS MORNING WITH COASTAL TEMPERATURES FALLING INTO THE UPPER 50S TO LOWER 60S WHILE THE REGIONúS INTERIOR VALLEYS HAVE COOLED INTO THE 60S TO LOWER 70S. MEANWHILE, 80S TO EVEN LOWER 90S ARE BEING REPORTED AS OF 2 AM PDT IN THE HIGHER TERRAIN IN SOME CASES JUST A FEW HUNDRED FEET UP IN ELEVATIO). THIS IS EVIDENT OF THE EXTREMELY WARM AIR MASS ALOFT THAT WILL CONTINUE TO BRING DANGEROUS HEAT TO THE REGIONúS INTERIOR OVER THE COMING DAYS. COOLING WILL BE LIMITED DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS, ESPECIALLY IN THE HIGHER TERRAIN AS MENTIONED ABOVE. THESE TEMPERATURES WILL CONTINUE TO PRODUCE VERY HIGH HEAT RISK ACROSS THE AFOREMENTIONED AREAS. CLOSER TO THE COAST/BAYS, AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES WILL LIKELY REACH INTO THE 90S TO NEAR 100 DEG F JUST A SHORT DISTANCE INLAND FROM THE COAST. OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS, IT IS LIKELY THAT WARMER PORTIONS OF THE CITY OF SAN FRANCISCO APPROACH OR EXCEED 90 DEG F. HOWEVER, OVERNIGHT COOLING WILL BE SUFFICIENT TO LIMIT OVERALL HEAT CONCERNS IN COASTAL AREAS. THAT SAID, AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE REGIONúS INTERIOR WITH A HEAT ADVISORY FOR AREAS JUST INLAND FROM THE COASTLINE. WHILE SOME AREAS WILL COOL A DEGREE OR TWO ON WEDNESDAY, THE HEAT DOME HOLDS FIRMLY IN PLACE INTO AT LEAST THURSDAY. AS SUCH, THE HEAT PRODUCTS HAVE BEEN EXTENDED INTO INTO THURSDAY. WHILE NO HEAT PRODUCTS ARE IN EFFECT FOR THE IMMEDIATE COASTLINE, AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES IN THE 80S TO LOWER 90S STILL ARE LIKELY. THUS, EVERYONE IN THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA AND CENTRAL COAST SHOULD REMAIN WEATHER-AWARE AND PRACTICE HEAT SAFETY. ONLY SUBTLE CHANGES ARE EXPECTED ON FRIDAY WITH THE INTERIOR STILL WARMING INTO THE TRIPLE DIGITS. MEANWHILE, COASTAL AREAS ARE ANTICIPATED TO COOL AS THE MID/UPPER LEVEL RIDGE WEAKENS SLIGHTLY AND SHIFTS TO THE EAST. HEADING INTO THE UPCOMING WEEKEND, MORE WIDESPREAD COOLING IS LIKELY IN RESPONSE TO THE WEAKENING RIDGE AND POTENTIAL TROUGHING DEVELOPING OFF OF THE WEST COAST.
