Emmy nominations 2022: See if your favorite shows made the list

Welcome back Friends to between bells and baker machado and new york, one of Hollywood’s biggest nights is drawing closer. But before the *** list celebs hit the red carpet, there’s some official business that needs to be handled first. The nominations. The 74th Emmy Award nomination is going to be announced tomorrow and ahead of those getting honored. We want to break down what we can expect. So we’re now joined by rotten tomatoes Awards editor Jacqueline, Coley, Jacqueline. Good to see you as always. So there are top shows that can almost certainly be nominated and most likely take some hot awards home like hacks, ted lasso and succession. So what show can we expect to give those shoo ins? Maybe *** run for their money here? Well, there is *** new kid on the block as we like to say this year. And that is the kids at Abbott Elementary and I think yes, we’re definitely going to be seeing some old favorites coming back for Emmys, but they are going to be the new kids on the block as far as probably leading *** lot of the comedy categories. And this is in addition to like you mentioned hacks and barry, but we also have new shows like Reservoir Dogs and even something like *** dark horse favorite, like our flag means death. That could also sort of pop in there. What’s incredible though too is the idea that these new shows that are on something like *** broadcast television is able to rival these streamers which have been dominating in recent years, you know, it’s so interesting and by the way, Abbott Elementary, one of my absolute favorite shows of the year, Ted Lasso, really sort of ran away with his comedy category last year, the second season was kind of panned by critics and viewers. Do you think there’s going to be as much interest in the Emmys for the second season of that show? We’ll push back *** little bit to say that yes, the second season of Ted Lasso did come back down to earth, but I think that had more to do with the fact that the first season was such *** word of mouth sort of underground grew over the summer when folks said, hey, you need Apple Plus to watch this great show about the coach and season two, although I do think it was very impactful and had still certified fresh score on rotten tomatoes, it was *** bit of *** disappointment. But the one thing I will say with the Television Academy is they actually are okay with rewarding shows that come back down to earth so long as they’re still rising above the vast majority of shows. And Ted Lasso. Absolutely did. That. Jason Sudeikis and Brett Goldstein are two of the most popular folks along with Hannah, wadding ham in Hollywood and the Television Academy. I think all three of them are going to have *** very good Tuesday. Yeah, So let’s talk about that because you’re right, Jason Sudeikis won the Emmy for this for this for this category. You also had you know, the amazing performance of hacks as well. Do you almost see that those two shows basically kind of the front runners in this category still they are definitely the front runners, but there’s another show that came back for its third season and really sort of I think leveled even its grand expectations. And that’s barry. That show, without question is the one that I think both Abbott and ted Lasso who kind of split votes in the sense that they’re both very feel good. Um I’d say more commercial type vehicles. Barry is very dark and very dangerous, but it is probably one of the most dramatic television that is allowed to still be in that comedy category. And there is *** reason why those dramas are the ones that people remember and live for barry kind of plays in that drama D category. And so I actually think that is going to be the one that folks need to watch out for this year, especially that final episode. I mean my God, I’m still trying to get over that final episode of barry, which is just bananas. Okay, let’s move over to the drama category. Jacqueline. Clearly succession had an incredible last season seems to be the one everybody is really talking about. Do you see it getting *** ton of nominations tomorrow or do you think maybe squid game or even Stranger Things, which is breaking tons of records right now, Over at netflix. Those are other ones to watch out for. Yeah, the drama category this year. I’m not gonna lie to you, this is gonna be *** bloodbath. In addition to the fact that we seem to have even more shows from different streamers and different players that are that are noteworthy. Like you have Yellowstone with paramount plus just coming in here, you also have *** show like Better Call Saul which has been consistent for every single season and then show like Stranger Things which folks have loved. But everyone is agreeing this last season was *** step above it. I do still think succession is the one to be, but if I had to give any show that could possibly rival with it and it would be squid game and the reason why is squid game was just such an international phenomenon. And very similarly to the Academy Awards. The Television Academy has *** much more international, I would say, voting Academy than it has in more recent years. And just the fact that *** show like Sweet Game could be nominated does make me think that maybe it has enough support to sort of say, hey, this is another one of those shows that really changed the game. So we want to reward it. Absolutely. Okay, when it comes to the acting categories in the drama category, who are some of the names that we should be keeping an eye out for? Well, the one that I think you should definitely keep an eye out for is bob Odenkirk, he’s back for Better Call Saul, the succession folks. And then some of the more legacy television shows from *** few years ago have really kind of kept him out of that lead actor conversation. But *** lot of folks are saying either him or Jason Bateman who both directed, produced and wrote on Ozark or people that could possibly come into this sort of like lead actor category and knock off brian cox or jeremy strong. I’m also going to give *** little love to lee jong jae. I think his sag win was really noteworthy and something that *** lot of folks are going to keep in mind, but my dark horse pick and the one that I could see shocking the world with the adam scott for severance. He’s somebody that is very familiar to the Television academy, *** comedy actor doing something so, so, so different. If folks get *** chance to see that show, he could shock the world, but I think the safe money is on succession and by the way, is such an amazing show. Okay, final category. We got to go to the limited series, that’s become *** very hot category over the last few years, I think have made, I think of inventing anna what shows are gonna be top of mind tomorrow, Jacqueline, Top of mind tomorrow, I think there’s gonna be *** lot, don’t forget about made obviously, um with, you know, uh having that sort of story with the with the daughter, the real life mother daughter in the actual show. And then also that’s just the incredible performance. Also gas lit. This was *** show that kind of came and went and it didn’t really hit with, I think *** lot of the audience, but Academy voters have been talking about this one, the one I’m interested to see if it makes it is white lotus. This was *** comedy sort of, I would say stand out and that is usually not something that is found in the limited series category, but to see them possibly score nomination tomorrow would be incredible. And I think so many folks in that cast are definitely going to be individual nominees as well. Absolutely. Can’t wait to see the nominees on Tuesday, rotten tomatoes, awards Editor Jacqueline Coley. Always *** pleasure, Jacqueline. Thanks so much
