COVID-19 outbreak reported at Monterey County Jail

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has reported an outbreak at the county jail. The jail has reported 29 inmates have tested positive for COVID-19 as well as 16 jail employees. This reporting period is for the past two weeks. Of the 16 deputies, nine were still on leave as of Monday morning. Visitation has been suspended during the outbreak. The cause of the outbreak is still under investigation.
