THE COOLING TREND WILL CONTINUE, BRINGING RELIEF TO OUR INLAND AREAS THROUGH THE WEEKEND AND INTO AT LEAST THE FIRST PART OF NEXT WEEK. SEASONALLY COOL TO MODERATE CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE TO PREVAIL CLOSER TO THE WATERS. THE NOW DEEPENING MARINE LAYER WILL REMAIN ENTRENCHED ALONG THE COAST WITH ASSOCIATED LOW CLOUDS AND PATCHY FOG PROGRESSING FURTHER INLAND AROUND THE BAYS AND INTO THE VALLEYS NIGHT AND MORNING HOURS. LIGHT DRIZZLE NEAR THE COAST ALSO POSSIBLE IN THE MORNINGS. JUNE GLOOM CONTINUES AS STRATUS AND LOW CLOUDS HAVE FILLED IN OVER A GOOD PORTION OF OUR AREA. THE MARINE LAYER HAS GROWN IN HEIGHT IN THE LAST 24 HOURS AS INDICATED BY THE FORT ORD PROFILER, WHICH IS “OFF THE CHARTS” SO TO SPEAK AT AROUND 2500+ FEET. FOR REFERENCE, LAST NIGHT THE MARINE LAYER WAS AROUND 1200 FEET NEAR FORT ORD. THIS HAS LED TO EXPANSIVE COVERAGE IN THE SPREAD OF STRATUS, REACHING ALL THE WAY TO INTERIOR REGIONS SUCH AS LIVERMORE, GILROY, AND HOLLISTER. WITH THIS, ALSO ANTICIPATING LIGHT DRIZZLE ALONG THE COAST TONIGHT INTO THE LATER MORNING HOURS. STRATUS SHOULD MIX OUT OVER THE INTERIOR BY 9-10 AM, BRINGING SUNNY SKIES THIS AFTERNOON, BUT STICK AROUND NEAR THE COAST. HIGH TEMPERATURES TODAY IN THE INTERIOR WILL RANGE FROM UPPER 70S TO LOWER 80S WITH THE COASTS NOT CHANGING MUCH WITH TEMPS IN THE 60S. COOLING TREND CONTINUES THROUGH THE WEEKEND WITH INCOMING TROUGH ARRIVING TO THE WEST COAST. BY SUNDAY (THE COLDEST DAY ANTICIPATED OF THE COOLING TREND), TEMPERATURES REGION-WIDE WILL BE IN THE 70S, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SOUTHERN MONTEREY COUNTY IN THE LOW 80S. THIS CHANGE IN THE OVERALL WEATHER PATTERN WILL ALSO HELP TO INCREASE THE MOISTURE CONTENT OF THE AIR. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT DESPITE COOLER TEMPS AND RELATIVELY WETTER ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS, FUELS REMAIN VERY DRY. CONTINUE TO USE CAUTION AND REMEMBER – ONE LESS SPARK, ONE LESS WILDFIRE. LOOKING BEYOND THE COOLING TREND THIS WEEKEND, HIGH PRESSURE WILL START TO BUILD BACK IN NEXT WEEK, PUSHING THE TROUGH WESTWARD OVER THE PACIFIC. A BROAD RIDGE OVER THE WESTERN US WILL PREVAIL BY JULY 9-10 AND BEYOND, WHICH WILL BRING A RETURN OF HOTTER TEMPERATURES IN THE INTERIOR REGIONS.
