MARINE LAYER DEEPENS AS THE HIGH PRESSURE CONTINUES TO WEAKEN, PROVIDING A MUCH WELCOME COOL DOWN THIS WEEKEND. TROPICAL STORM KAY EXPECTED TO BRING IN AMPLE MID- LEVEL MOISTURE AND A CHANCE FOR WETTING RAIN TO SOME AREAS SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH MONDAY MORNING. MAJOR IMPACTS REMAIN WELL TO OUR SOUTH. . THE MARINE LAYER TO DEEPEN AND BRING US TO MUCH MORE SEASONABLE TEMPERATURES. IN FACT, THE MARINE LAYER AS OF WRITING SITS AT ABOUT 1,000 TO 1,500 FEET…MUCH MORE IDEAL THAN THE COUPLE HUNDRED FEET FROM EARLIER IN THE WEEK. AS SUCH, COOLER TEMPS WILL PUSH FURTHER INLAND TODAY, WITH MOST LOCATIONS RUNNING ABOUT 5 TO 10 DEGREES COOLER FOR HIGHS COMPARED TO YESTERDAY. SINCE TEMPS ARE ALREADY TRENDING COOLER AND GIVEN THE HIGH CONFIDENCE IN THE STRONG COOLING TREND INTO THE WEEKEND, WILL NOT HOLD ANY HEAT HIGHLIGHTS INTO TODAY. THIS BEING SAID, TODAY WILL STILL BE WARM WITH HIGHS IN THE 90S TO LOWER 100S FOR INTERIOR AND HIGH-ELEVATION LOCATIONS. HEATRISK GUIDANCE SUGGESTS A MODERATE RISK FOR HEAT IN THESE LOCATIONS, WHICH CAN BE IMPACTFUL FOR THOSE SENSITIVE TO HEAT. HIGH/EXTREME RISK FOR HEAT IMPACTS REMAINS IN MOSTLY REMOTE INTERIOR AND HIGH ELEVATION LOCATIONS. HIGHS FOR COASTAL AREAS AND THE BAY SHORELINE WILL BE IN THE MID-60 TO MID-80 DEGREE RANGE TODAY. LATER IN THE DAY FRIDAY WE WILL BEGIN TO THE SEE THE EFFECTS FROM TROPICAL STORM KAY IN THE FORM OF HIGH CLOUDS AND INCREASED MOISTURE, PARTICULARLY OVER MONTEREY AND SAN BENITO COUNTIES. KAY IS EXPECTED TO CONSISTENTLY WEAKEN THROUGH THE NEXT FEW DAYS AS IT MOVES NORTHWESTWARD AND MAKES A WESTWARD TURN AWAY FROM THE CA COAST THIS WEEKEND. MOST OF THE IMPACTS FROM KAY WILL REMAIN WELL INTO THE SOCAL REGION. SO, THE MOISTURE IS THERE, BUT WHO GETS THE RAIN? THE BULK OF THE MOISTURE AND INSTABILITY ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN LARGELY SOUTH OF THE BAY AREA, THE RESULT SHOULD BE AN EAST-WEST AXIS OF MODEST INSTABILITY WHICH SPREADS ACROSS SOUTHERN MONTEREY AND SAN BENITO COUNTIES ON SATURDAY AND SLOWLY MAKES ITS WAY NORTHWARD THROUGH SUNDAY. BY MONDAY, MUCH OF KAYúS INFLUENCE WILL BE OUT OF THE AREA AND LONG-TERM ENSEMBLE GUIDANCE KEEPS US IN A RATHER PLEASANT PERSISTENT TROUGH PATTERN WITH NORMAL TO SLIGHTLY-BELOW- NORMAL TEMPERATURES THROUGHOUT NEXT WEEK.
