The Monterey Peninsula Yacht Club defended their Veeder Cup championship, sweeping a best-of-five series against the Santa Cruz Yacht Club in the finals earlier this month.
Last held in 2018, the Veeder Cup has been a tradition in Monterey Bay since 1964.
Competing with an all-women’s crew this year, skipper Kate Conway and mates Shandy Carroll and Lilly Robnet took advantage of the winds off the Pacific Ocean waters to win all three races.
The accomplishment marked the first time that an all-women’s crew won the Vedder Cup, keeping the title in Monterey.
Twice the Monterey Peninsula Yacht Club came from behind at the first weather mark to win the final two races by 28 seconds and seven seconds. It dominated the first race against an all-male yacht club.
