Change of command at Presidio of Monterey

MONTEREY — The Presidio of Monterey held a change of command ceremony on Soldier Field on Tuesday. U.S. Army Col. Samuel Kline assumed responsibilities as the new Presidio of Monterey garrison commander, replacing Col. Varman Chhoeung, commander since July 2020. Presiding over the ceremony was Vince Grewatz, director of Army Installation Management Command’s Training Directorate.

The Presidio of Monterey garrison command is responsible for the planning, coordination and execution of all infrastructure and base operations support. Kline, a Special Forces officer, comes to the Presidio after commanding the Special Operations Advisory Group in Baghdad, Iraq. Following this assignment, Col. Varman Chhoeung will be report to Army Futures Command in Austin, Texas, with his family.
