‘A DUI arrest nearly every five minutes’: CHP reports busy Labor Day weekend

The California Highway Patrol reported on Tuesday that the holiday weekend ended with nearly 1,000 DUI arrests. According to the CHP on Twitter, 978 DUI arrests were made statewide over the 78-hour Labor Day maximum enforcement period. “A DUI arrest nearly every five minutes by our officers,” the law enforcement agency tweeted. In addition to the DUI arrests, CHP reported that 43 people died from crashes during the weekend. That is similar to last year’s number of 46 deaths.
