10-year-old world champion horseshoe thrower shows off his skills

Eli Sullivan spends hours and hours in his side-yard throwing 500 to 1,000 horseshoes every day. Sullivan is only 10 years old, but he is already a world champion.”Every morning I try to throw before the bus gets here and every evening I get off the bus, do my homework, and go out there and start throwing,” Sullivan said.His dad taught him everything he knows about the game.”He used to beat me all the time then I started practicing and he hardly ever beats me,” Sullivan said.Not only can’t his dad beat him — nobody can.Last month in Louisiana, Sullivan won the World Championships of Horseshow Throwing in his age group, adding to his dozens of trophies and awards. Sullivan is very famous in the world of horseshoes.”I feel like a celebrity every time I look at my page,” Sullivan said.Sullivan’s opponents are often much older, which isn’t surprising considering he just reached double digits.”I tried to teach him the basics and certain things that mess me up and struggle with, I try to teach him those first, so he doesn’t fall into the same footsteps, and he’s run with it from there,” Evan Sullivan, Eli’s dad, said. “He told me before I even started building these pits up that daddy I want to be a world champion, and as a parent you tell him you can do anything you set your mind to.
